Jonno hits form!
|
First assessment of the Saints wicket drew the conclusion....."DEAD!"
Pumpers won the toss and put Saints in and Houghton knew that if they could remove 'Jacko' early then they had a chance of bowling them out cheaply.
Saints started solidly with Murphy scoring freely and Seckington looking untroubled if not fluid. Greg got the breakthrough bowling Seckington for 12 and in strode Jacko donning a rather rare full rimmed hat. The hard work began, Houghton strived for the wicket, with Greg and Henry putting plenty of effort in on the dead deck.
Finally the breakthrough came when Jonno was brought in against his old club. A dirty quick bouncer from Jon and Murphy skied it with Robbie snaffling a lovely catch under the swirling ball. Ben's mate Hill then launched a Pumpers' full toss down Greg's throat and scoring slowed significantly. Jonno struck again removing Callan with another lovely snaffle running backwards by Brocky, things were looking good but so was Jacko.....
Shardlow and Jacko then put on a partnership until Potty accepted the knick from Greg, Bailey then came in launching some big sixes off Henry before chipping a ct + b to Greg.
This brought the onslaught from Jacko, firmly set Jacko decided enough was enough and tucked in to just about anything and everything, propelling Saints to 245-6 off 50. Jacko finishing on 83*.
Tea Rating - 6.5
Houghton knew that with a weakened side they need to value their wickets. Sadly they once again got off to a poor start as Robbie was LBW to Bailey for 10, and Charlie played a lazy shot to be caught for 12. Potty looked in great touch mixing the elegent with the fearsome and many were gutted and surprised when he missed a straight one for 30.
A partnership then developed between Ben and; yes, that man, Jonno. Both batsmen played themself in before deciding to play their shots, Ben looked in impeccable touch placing the ball in the smallest of gaps and Jonno was scoring freely nailing the ball to the boundary. The excellent partnership was ended when Ben was bowled for a well played 37 leaving Ricky to secure the draw with Jonno before slapping a fine six back over Seckington's head. Jonno by this time hit the boundaries when he wanted and finished 76*. Houghton 202-4 off 50.
A losing draw but a very good draw nonetheless. Some glimpses of the team pulling together and performing well as a unit.
Well done to Jonno who finished with 2-14 off 8 (his last over going for 8!) and a well played 76*.
The jug eared boys next week.....stuff them!!!
