Match Report for 'Great Houghton Cricket Club-Sunday XI' vs 'London Erratics-Sunday XI' (h), (2010-06-27 14:30:00), (Friendly Game)
An Erratic Display
The Swords took on The London Erratics this past Sunday and despite a 3pm England game managed to get out 12 players to compliment the away teams 8. Greg ‘Psycho’ Pearce and yours truly opted to don the away kit and Henry took control of the Swords for the 4th time this season.
From this point on I will be writing from an ‘Erratic’ viewpoint. Houghton won the toss and elected to bat. Heath Gibson and GHCC import Greg Pearce started up for the Erratics and were all over the Houghton top order. AJ nicked off, Sam pulled to deep square and Henry mooed across the line to leave the home side reeling. Josh provided some resistance, but when he departed, shortly followed by Hitesh, GHCC were in tatters at 48 for 5. Kieran was still in at the other end, and accompanied by Charlie made a good sixth wicket partnership. Eventually Kieran was caught brilliantly for a dogged 39. Charlie pushed on tucking in to yours truly (more luck than judgement if you ask me), and made an excellent 66. The home team finished on 161 at tea and duly declared.

My tea rocked! No fruit – this is a man’s world!

The Erratics started their chase circumspectly and were soon in trouble after a couple of dubious LBW decisions. After being sheltered from the quickies (Charlie and Josh – tee hee), I was shunted up the order to ‘have a biff’. Bentos and Hitesh were put to the sword whilst Parag looked classy at the other end. The run rate was soon manageable again. Unfortunately both men threw their wickets away and after a flurry of dismissals, the Erratics needed 15 to win with 1 wicket in hand. Henry had brought himself back on clearly worried that his 100% record was in jeopardy. The runs came slowly but time was not an issue. Greg worked the ball masterfully, and with 9 balls remaining timed one through mid-wicket that was surely heading for the boundary... Unfortunately it was stopped and Henry cleaned up the number 11 to give GHCC an unlikely victory by 2 runs. A great game, far better than watching England get stuffed by the Germans!

Many thanks to the Erratics for making the trip and for making Greg and me welcome. Is there anywhere I can buy an Erratics cap?
