Houghton fell a giant!
|
Tuesday night saw a return to 20/20 format for Houghton as they took the trip to Premier Division club Brixworth in hopes of a memorable victory.
James 'Bleary-eyed' Jarvis won the toss and elected to bat, choosing not to open with Pinchy but his younger brother Charlie.
Charlie was dropped first ball of his innings and both openers then proceeded in ticking along at 5/6 rpo. Some lovely shots were played by both batsmen before Charlie was triggered for the third game in a row (31). Jarvo then got his eye well in, and took the attack to the Brixworth bowlers before being caught off the spinner for a very nice 61.
What followed shocked and upset the Houghtonians as Potty was skittled for 14 and Pinchy and Bunty were both dismissed in successive deliveries giving J. Allen a hat-trick....according to Jonno this should have been 4 in 4 as Ben was plum the next ball but not given.....lucky Nurdly. Jonno played a great finishing innings of 25 to get GHCC to 150 - 5 off 20.
Tea Rating - It's 20/20 you fool!!! But there was a BBQ for Pinchy!
Houghton went out feeling energised after their superb innings and knew that they stood a chance if they could make early inroads. They did just that (with some help from stupid batting).
Newborough took the first 5 balls for 9 and decided it wasn't enough so he provided a catch which was taken very well by Jarvo. Blakemore then launched one into orbit, giving Nurdly time to finish his burger before taking a lovely snaffle on the boundary.
Worthington (with an average of roughly 120 against Houghton) was run-out by Charlie, even with Potty giving him a chance to get back. Gardner caught by Jacko off a lucky long hop from Henry and Parsons was bowled not caught by Jacko with the slowest ball in history....genius! Jonno's brother Ross was caught off Jacko for 31. With Brixworth requiring around 30 off the last two overs Houghton were on the edge! Pinchy bowled a memorable over off 2-13 leaving Jacko too finish the job..... Skipper Lacey and number 11 Sibley had the pleasure of facing the final over. Lacey smashed a 6 and a 4 in successive deliveries, in the end it was Sibley on strike with 2 off 1 ball required. Another super slow ball outside off-stump was too much for him and the game was Houghtons!!!
Incredible bottle shown by the entire team but special mention to Pinchy and Jacko for bowling the last two thanks to Jarvo's D in Maths.
A giant was slain on 20/07/2010!!
Next giant Oundle, swords ready lads!!
